Why I Moved to Portugal and What It Taught Me About Performance, Identity and Freedom

A few months ago, I packed up my life in London and moved to Portugal.

Not as a holiday.

Not as an escape.

As a conscious decision to live in alignment with the way I coach.

For over a decade, I built a successful career in high pressure environments. Investment banking. High ticket sales. Leadership roles where performance mattered and excuses did not. From the outside, it looked impressive. From the inside, it was intense, demanding, and often disconnected from what my nervous system actually needed to perform sustainably.

The move to Portugal was not about slowing down.

It was about becoming sharper, calmer, and more intentional.

High performance does not mean living in constant pressure

One of the biggest lies we are sold is that to perform at a high level, life has to feel hard.

Long hours.

Constant urgency.

Chronic stress.

Always being on.

In reality, the best decisions I have made in business have come when I was regulated, rested, and grounded. Portugal gave me the space to embody that truth fully.

Morning walks by the sea.

Training without rushing.

Working fewer hours with more focus.

Creating from clarity rather than adrenaline.

This is the environment where real leadership lives.

Identity before strategy

Most people try to fix their performance by changing tactics.

New routines.

New tools.

New productivity hacks.

What actually changes everything is identity.

Moving countries forced me to strip back who I thought I had to be to succeed. No familiar validation. No old labels. No default patterns. Just me, my values, and my standards.

That is the same work I do with my clients.

We do not just ask:

What do you want to achieve?

We ask:

Who do you need to become to sustain it without burning out?

Because strategy without identity always collapses under pressure.

Freedom is a performance advantage

Living in Portugal has reinforced something I have always known but now live daily.

Freedom creates better performance.

When your nervous system feels safe, your thinking becomes clearer.

When your body is regulated, your decision making improves.

When your life supports you, work stops feeling like a fight.

This is why my coaching is not about doing more.

It is about removing the internal friction that keeps high performers stuck in cycles of stress, self doubt, and over effort.

How this move shapes my coaching today

My coaching is for people who perform under pressure and want to keep winning without sacrificing themselves in the process.

Founders.

Sales leaders.

High achievers.

People who are tired of white knuckling their success.

The move to Portugal did not change what I coach.

It deepened it.

I now coach from embodiment, not theory.

From regulation, not hustle.

From lived experience, not motivation.

Because sustainable performance is not built in chaos.

It is built in clarity, self trust, and emotional discipline.

If you are ready to lead, sell, and perform from a place of calm power rather than constant pressure, this is the work.

And this is the life that proves it is possible.
